NICKY
ADDEO
Every once
in a while, there comes a long a voice - a special voice unlike any other.
And when you hear it, you stop dead in your tracks and listen. That's
the reaction you get when you hear Nicky Addeo for the first time.
You find yourself listening to every note and when he's done, you instantly
want to hear more. Whether its a classic group harmony recording
like Gloria (his version quite possibly the greatest of all time) or an
original composition, Nicky Addeo's vocal qualities shine through every
time. Its our pleasure to feature one of the great voices from the
world of group harmony.....Nicky Addeo.

His career
spans 5 decades now, beginning back in the early 1960's when he started
hanging out with fellow residents of Asbury Park, New Jersey (home of legendary
rock and roll god Bruce Springstein) - the Darchaes. At that time
it was Ray and the Darchaes - Ray Dahrouge (lead), Tony Juliano (falsetto),
Louie Scalpati (1st tenor), Sal Capalungo (2nd tenor), Denny Testa (baritone),
and Sam Siciliano (bass). In 1962, the Darchaes would record on Buzzy
and Aljon Records doing such numbers as Darling Forever, There Will Always
Be (Buzzy #202), Little Girl of Mine and Carol (Aljon #1249/1250).
When the were together hanging out, Nicky would sing with them and 1963
he took Ray's place and they became Nicky Addeo and the Darchaes recording
for Savoy Records (#200 - re-released in '64 as Earls Records #1533).
Its a classic recording in the world of group harmony of the song "Gloria"
(b/w Bring Back Your Heart). Gloria is a selection that so many groups
attempted over the years but if you ask people in the know almost everyone
agrees that Nicky's version is one of the best if the best of all time.
Later
in 1964, Nicky would record with the Darchaes once again on Melody Records
(#1417) doing You Can Depend On Me b/w Where There is Love.
He would join two other groups in 1964 to make further recordings.
He joined the Plazas to record on Revelation (#7-101) doing Danny Boy b/w
Lovely Way to Spend an Evening and the Uniques on Selsom (#104) doing Over
the Rainbow b/w Fool Number Two.

Nicky continued
to be sought out as a vocalist over the years. He recently formed
a new group - the Nite Owls - and recorded and released his own CD - Tunes
From the Tomb. While not studio recordings, this is nevertheless
an outstanding CD of great selections from the history of group harmony
- 18 in all! The hairs on the back of your neck stand on end as you
listen to Nicky's smooth-as-silk voice on selections such as Would I Be
Crying, A Kiss From Your Lips and Crazy For You. And as a special
added bonus, there's a live version of Nicky doing the classic Gloria along
with some of Springstein's E Streeters - Clarence Clemons, Max Weinberg,
Garry Tallent and the folks from 14 Karat Soul. His versions of these
classics are every bit as good as the originals.
Following
the terrible events of September 11, 2001, Nicky record a 3 song CD entitled
Songs of Healing. The selections including Peace, Looking Through
the Eyes of Children, and Joined at the Heart. These songs provided
hope and inspiration of all of us during a dark time in our history.
They prove once again not only Nicky's terrific vocal talents but his gifted
songwriting abilities as well. Nicky is actively performing with
and without the Nite Owls and you can catch him at events all around the
Tri-State area.
