Mystique
There is no sweeter sound than a group of four or five ladies coming together to sing acappella group harmony. And the lovely ladies of Mystique (Christy, Doreen, Connie, Jennifer, and Micki) have mastered the art of sweet-sounding acappella. Going back several years now and as active today as ever, Mystique is a premiere group harmony artist.
Mystique started in 1996 when founding member Christy got the idea to form an all-female group. She placed ads in local papers and several ladies responded. The original group included four members. After some personnel changes, the current 5 member composition has been together now for about 2-3 years.

The current members have quite a diverse musical background, encompassing pop, jazz, country, gospel and theater. Christy is the "queen of doo-wop" as the other members describe her - she is the one with the knowledge and deep love of group harmony singing that the rest of the group members have come to share.
The group's musical style is quite unique. While they may be doing a classic doo-wop or oldies composition, they always put their own touch on every song. The group has been fortunate to be able to work with Phil Ruggiero (formally of fellow acappella group: Special Delivery). Phil (currently with the group Wide Variety) has helped the group with vocal coaching and arrangements.
As for special
memories, the group has had the pleasure of performing at some big venues
like the Paramount Theater in Asbury Park, the Lead East Concert Hall,
the TLA Theatre in Philadelphia and....Radio City Music Hall in New York
City!!! The Radio City show was quite memorable for the ladies -
they even had their own dressing room with their names on it!

In
2003, the ladies put out their first CD - First Time Out - a four song
offering. The music selection is interesting including the true-to-form
group harmony classic "That's My Desire" but also including a fantastic
soulful version of "Higher and Higher." A real nice sampling of the
ladies' talents. When I asked the ladies how they selected the songs
they sing, they told me they use a "fish bowl." Christy explained
that all the possible songs are placed in the fish bowl and, to be fair
to all the group members, songs are selected at random! Whether randomly
selected or meticulously planned, the ladies have a nice variety of doo-wop,
oldies and girl-group selections in their repertoire. They also recently
recorded a version of the National Anthem which is so unique and wonderful.
Arranged by Phil Ruggiero, its beautiful and stirring - one of the nicest
renditions of a difficult composition.
