THE FOUR POPS
When you think of hard-working contemporary group harmony artists with years of experience and loads of talent, the Four Pops immediately come to mind. They are one of the tri-State area's hottest groups. Four guys who could easily be spending time with their families, going to the ball game, or pursuing a second career. Instead, you can find them singing in local clubs and venues, entertaining the crowds and helping keep the sound alive for all of us.
The group consists of Frank Ranieri (lead/first tenor), Tino Alvarez (lead/first tenor), Joe Clements (lead/second tenor) and Vito Scaglione (baratone/bass). Each of the members brings years of experience of group harmony singing to the table.
Frank , the original Four Pops member, grew up in Ozone Park Queens, which saw its share of doo-wop groups, most notably the Duprees. Frank started singing when he was 13, singing on the streetcorner and in the bathrooms - looking for that echo. He sang with the Parisians (the pre-Duprees group) and the Thorns back in the original days of doo-wop. After the original Four Pops group lost some of its members, Frank decided to put together a new group.
Joe, from Astoria Queens started singing in high school and later with a local group called the Markeys. Joe left singing for a while when his friend Frank asked him if he would like to form a group. Joe jumped at the chance to start singing again and the group was formed.
Tino, from Williamsburg park of Brooklyn, is a veteran of group harmony singing, first singing with Dino and the Heartspinners and later with the Rob Roys, Nutmegs, the Brooklyn Connection and the Larkings. Tino was even in a latin rock band at one time!
Vito, also from Ozone Park Queens, was also one of the original Four Pops, having formed the group with Frank and Joe.
Enjoy
our tribute to these hardworking, harmonizing guys!
